Adult Therapy

As an integrative therapist, I draw upon knowledge and techniques from a range of modalities, tailoring my approach for each individual client. Typically my approach is informed by neuroscience, transactional analysis, attachment theory, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), and experiential therapies.

With adults and children I combine talking therapy, psychoeducation, and creative - experiential methods such as Sandtray, Clayfield, drawing, painting and guided imagery. I can also offer EMDR if traumatic / painful memories are causing emotional distress in the here and now.

Adult therapy can be either short term or long term.

Shorter term work is typically goal oriented and solution focused, and seeks to explore a specific issues in the here-and-now.

Longer term work often helps clients gain awareness of unconscious processes and the historical roots of persistent self-beliefs and relational patterns.

In the safety of the therapeutic relationship we can explore negative patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving that have developed in response to historic traumas and/or unmet emotional needs, and consider how these get reinforced through adapted ways of coping in the here-and-now. By bringing these patterns into awareness, it is possible to challenge the beliefs that no longer serve you and develop healthier ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving.
